Texas Active License Renewal Requirements
     1.  15 credit hours of MCE (Mandatory Continuing Education) is required. 6 of the required 15 MCE hours must be in two
TREC-authored courses titled "TREC Legal Update" and "TREC Ethics".

     2.  New licensees receiving their first license are required to complete SAE courses in a classroom or from an approved
college correspondence provider. MCE courses are not considered SAE courses by TREC. ICE does not provide any
SAE courses. If you are a new licensee and have never previously renewed your Texas real estate license, ask your
managing broker about local SAE courses in your area.

Taking ICE Courses
     1.  You must complete ICE courses on-line using the Internet. A minimum of 24 hours from the time of your order is
required by TREC rule to complete your MCE. ICE satisfies this rule by requiring a minimum of 24 hours to start
          any test for mandatory courses.

     2.  Complete all on-line lessons for each course. There is no final exam for elective courses.

     3.  Pass your mandatory on-line TREC Ethics and TREC Legal Update Final Exams with a grade of 70% or better.
If you do not pass your first Legal Final Exam with a grade of 70% or better, you are permitted one retake.

     4.  All on-line Legal Final Exams are graded immediately by your computer, and the Completion Certificate is provided
          on-line for printing.

     5.  Your ICE Completion Certificate is TREC Form MCE Form 9-8 which must be signed by you and returned to ICE.

     6.  After ICE receives your signed MCE Form 9-8, it is verified and reported to TREC using their on-line system.

     7.  You can now complete your license renewal on-line at the TREC web-site. PLEASE BE PATIENT: Allow 3-5
business days for TREC to update their website with your course credits after sending your MCE Form 9-8 to ICE.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who Is ICE?
ICE is a school that specializes in Continuing Education for professional license renewal. We are licensed in many states, and are approved by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC). ICE specializes in distance learning education using the Internet for delivery.

How long are my courses available to me?
Your course(s) are available to you for six months from the date of your order. Presuming that a specific course is unfinished, once the expiration date is reached, that course is unavailable and must be repurchased.

I can't get to the Internet. Can I use ICE's courses to renew my real estate license?
No. ICE is only approved to provide Internet based courses in Texas.

This is my first renewal. Does ICE provide the required SAE courses?
No. ICE is approved only for MCE courses, not SAE courses.

What about the new mandatory legal courses? Does ICE provide them?
Yes. ICE has been approved for the new TREC Ethics and TREC Legal Update courses. ICE's web-site is also in full compliance with the Rules of TREC, namely; 535.72(i) Mandatory Continuing Education: Presentation of Courses, Advertising and Records.

How do ICE courses work?
Each ICE on-line course contains lessons. At the end of every lesson is a short quiz. You must answer every quiz question correctly to proceed on to the next lesson. You can retake the quiz as many times as required in order to answer every question correctly. You will be informed if any question's answer is wrong.

Do I have to download and print the course material?
No. You have the ability to download and print the course material at any time PRIOR to completing the course online. This material is identical to the online course lessons, although it does not contain the online quizzes and NO CREDIT IS EARNED for reading the course offline. For an additional cost, the printed material will be shipped to you from ICE

When I go to a class, I stay all day. Do I need to be on the Internet for 15 hours?
No. The amount of time it takes to finish each course varies from student to student. With ICE, you learn at your own pace.

When I use the Internet, it's only for a short time.
Can I start-and-stop any course as many times as I want?
Yes. As you read through a course's lessons, your progress is automatically "bookmarked." If you read a few lessons, and are interrupted, the ICE course will start where you previously ended when you return to that course. You can start-and-stop any course (connect to the Internet) as many times as you want.

Can I read more than 1 course simultaneously?
Yes. Each course will have its own bookmark, so you can start any course at any time without having to finish another course.

Do I have to always use the same computer?
No. You can connect to the Internet using any device, log in using your ICE student number and password, and use your courses for as long as you want. Most people study at work during the day and at home in the evening and on weekends.

How do I know ICE is approved in Texas?
CLICK to visit the TREC web-site where ICE is listed.

How does ICE know that it's really ME taking the courses?
We ask identification questions throughout the course, and you have 30 seconds to answer these questions correctly. If your answer is incorrect, you will not be able to complete the course. You may, however, re-purchase and re-register to take the course again.

What happens when I finish a course's on-line lessons?
After you complete the last lesson for your ICE LEGAL courses, you are ready to take your Final Exam. It is available immediately on-line.
Courses categorized as ELECTIVE do not require a final exam. When you complete the last lesson for each ELECTIVE course, you are finished and can receive your Completion Certificate immediately.

Tell me more about the LEGAL tests: how many questions and are they timed?
Each ICE LEGAL 3 credit hour course test has 25 questions, and you have 30 minutes to complete them. Each state's regulations are different regarding tests. In Texas, tests are only available online. If you fail the test on the first try, you are permitted one retake. Effective September 1, 2007, TREC will not renew any license submitted to them before 24 hours have lapsed from the time you ordered. ICE now requires 24 hours after your order date to automatically start any LEGAL test.

I watched 2 people in my office take their ICE tests, and they had different questions. Why?
Each test's question mix will be unique because, for Texas legal tests, questions are randomly selected from a large bank of questions. TREC allows ICE to show the questions you got wrong after each test only because of our random selection ability. Remember, each test is OPEN BOOK, so print the course material and refer to it when taking your tests.

When does ICE notify TREC of your course completions?
ICE reports course completions to the TREC upon receipt of MCE Form 9-8 after determining your Final Exam grade of 70% or better. The reporting process is automated. ICE's computer sends all completions directly to TREC's computer where they are processed within 3-5 business days. You are responsible for providing ICE with your actual Texas Real Estate License Number; otherwise, the reporting process will not work.

What happens if I buy ICE courses, and don't like them?
ICE's Refund Policy All requests for any refund will be denied by ICE except where the following conditions are met:
  1. the student desires a refund for a course that has not expired past the initial order period of 180 days
  2. the online course version has not been completed
  3. for states where CE includes testing, the test or final exam has not been started online or mailed by ICE
  4. There are no refunds for printed course material orders shipped via Priority Mail by ICE. Also, you are responsible for notifying ICE within 30 days of ordering printed course material that you did not receive.

Due to increased banking fees, as of October 1, 2009, all refunds after 7 days of purchase will incur a $10.00 processing fee.

How do I order ICE courses?
You can order via the Internet at this web-site. Or you can order by fax, mail, or phone 800-621-8341 9-5 weekdays. Please call if you prefer placing your order by phone.

How do I pay for my courses?
ICE accepts most major credit cards. You can also pay by check.

If I order, what do I get?
Every course is delivered on-line via the Internet. You can also print your own course material using the following on-line files: Adobe Acrobat Reader®, or using your Internet browser. If you prefer, you can also order printed course material from ICE. All printed course materials are identical to the on-line course.

TREC has announced that, EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2006, all Texas Real Estate license renewals will be ordered only on the TREC website and paid by credit card. Checks will no longer be accepted by TREC (ICE still takes checks by mail for MCE courses).

That's the good news. The better news is that the renewal notice mailed by TREC 90 days prior to your renewal date is now a simple postcard containing sufficient information for you to be able to easily renew your license online. The best news is you may renew BEFORE completing your MCE. You must, however, complete all MCE courses within 60 days after your license expires, and you must pay a deferral fee of $200.
